Burgmann Anglican School – Sports Central
Canberra, ACT

Build& was engaged by Burgmann Anglican School to provide comprehensive Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and Superintendency services for the design and delivery of the landmark Sport Central facility. Encompassing over 2,600m2, the new development features two full-sized basketball courts, retractable stadium seating capable of accommodating up to 700 occupants, purpose-built staff quarters, and dedicated change and toilet amenities.

A key consideration for the successful delivery of this project was the fact that all works were conducted within a live and operational school environment. This necessitated meticulous planning around site access, noise management, safety, and scheduling to minimise disruption to daily school activities and ensure student and staff safety at all times.

In recognition of the site's complexity and its active educational setting, the project team engaged in extensive consultation with a broad range of stakeholders. This included school leadership, faculty staff, administrative personnel, student representatives, and external consultants. Regular workshops, design reviews, and coordination meetings were held to ensure the facility met educational needs, complied with regulatory requirements, and aligned with the school’s broader vision for community and sporting engagement.

Build&’s early involvement allowed for proactive risk management, cost planning, and constructability input, ensuring the project remained aligned with the client's budget, quality expectations, and program targets. The outcome is a high-performance sporting precinct designed to support both curriculum-based activities and broader community use, setting a new benchmark for integrated educational sport facilities in the region.
